Whoo boy, feeling groggy...

@Tommy: Forgot how weird it feels to be in between semesters with no classes.

@Aero: I've got a week break before I have a month of summer classes. But during that week, I'm hoping to get a piece done for that Rift contest on DA. And in between then and the next Fall semester it's all portfolio stuff.

@Hail: Don't worry, your piece will actually be done this summer. I've got that contest piece before it, and the idea I have for Shala is pretty big so it'll be a bit. I'll have to brush up on After Effects again since I haven't used it since I made that Iron piece.

Ah the Rift contest. That triggered some interest here too. But I probably won't have enough time. Prizes are not nothing though! Good luck in there, I'm sure you'll come up with something epic (along the lines of your Shatterer painting).

Edit: Oh deadline is June 19th. Perhaps in due time...

love your latest uploads! are those development boards part of your class assignment, too, or did you just summarize and make those at the end for fun?

Back from the dead - I'll be browsing through everyone's thread later on to see what you folks have been up to.

Linework for Shala. Bringing in everything I've learned from my Char. Design class into this. Went through a number of poses, and this one seemed to best represent Shala's confidence and sexuality. I think it has way more character than the initial pose I was planning to work with.

Also re-designed her armor. Trying to move away from doing direct armor copies - helps way more in terms of creativity.

Oh that makes her look really classy but still tough as a warrior. I have to give it to the lady though that i am amazed she can walk on those high heels hahaha.

Very nice Charlie

It's important to look good when commanding an army of undead.

this... is frickin awesome! yay fur love the armour, except for the part that covers her boobies, the plating seems too round there to fit in with the overall sharpness of the rest. and your brushwork is so lovely :3

You are right that pushing your boundaries can help you improve, I definitely see some Wizard of Oz-concept style in there. This really blows some new life in my desire of a Jesus Beaming Lucy

Oh and about our conversation last time: http://imaginism.deviantart.com/

@Morag: Thanks Morag. The fur is actually gonna' be more like raven's feathers this time around.

I'm not too sure about the design on the breasts. I tried earlier with that spikey web design on there, but the chest plate just looked too overdone with it. Reason I added in that design was to play off of her natural curves, and to break the pattern between the pointy feathers and layered stomach.

@Toms: Right, the Oz project and my Illustration class definitely taught me to view character design in a much different manner. Before, I wasn't putting enough planning into my works - I got ahead of myself and would just plan things out as they came to me.

This entire past semester, I had to do so many preliminary sketches before actually starting the final piece. At first it was really tedious, but I soon realized the importance of doing drafts/thumbnails. There were definitely a lot of re-works of this pose and armor design before the lineart was finalized.

Anyways, hopefully I do get around to Lucy and her Jesus Beam. And now that I see the link, I have seen that guy's work - really great stuff, especially his Alice In Wonderland concepts.

Here's another WIP shot with a bit of shading and coloring added. I'm really enjoying having lineart as a base to paint over. The clean design of the lineart really plays well with how loose I paint. Think I've found a new favorite method of PS painting.

Loving the pose...and the feathers

really really like her belt buckle.

She ain't going to be running anywhere in those heels though - is that why MM's are so slow?
